Ptarmigan and Friends Skied Tahoe
February 3 - 10, 2001

Thirty-eight Ptarmigans & friends skied various ski areas surrounding Lake Tahoe the first week of February.  We stayed in spacious townhouses at Lakeland Village in South Lake Tahoe, California about a mile from the California base lodge of Heavenly ski area.  Participants skied Heavenly, Kirkwood, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Alpine Meadows, and Squaw Valley.

A highlight of the trip was Thursday's trip to Squaw Valley via the Tahoe Queen, the world's only waterborne ski shuttle.  A buffet breakfast was served en-route to Tahoe City on the north shore.  From Tahoe City we were bussed a short distance to Squaw Valley where we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on the slopes.  Upon return to the Tahoe Queen we were served an excellent dinner while the paddlewheels churned our way back across the lake.  Entertainment on the cruise included a great band who played everything from current popular to oldies rock.  A lively womens ski group from Orange County California kicked off the dancing & partying and provided some surprise entertainment during dinner.

As with most trips, not everything goes perfectly.  The major problems we encountered were bestowed upon us by our "Thorn-in-the-Side" bus company, Amadore Stage Lines.  They are hereby awarded the "Duh! What Bus? Award" for their blunders.  Fortunately everything was resolved in one way or another.

This trip may be repeated in two or three years.  Watch for it in the club newsletter and on this website.  In the meantime, checkout the photo galleries from the trip below.
