For over 350 million years the New River has been carving a magnificant steep walled canyon through Southern West Virginia's Allegheny Plateau.  About 37 Ptarmigans & friends rafted the New River May 6, 2000.  We enjoyed high cool waters and very warm air temperatures.  We rafted with Class VI Outfitters using 7 to 9 person, 12'-14' self-bailing rafts each with an expert guide.  The trip, which was organized by Ray Cope and Linny Esterly, included round trip motor coach, 2 nights lodging, 2 breakfasts, riverside lunch, dinner buffet, and, of course, rafting.

All had a great time.  Even those who swam by surprise!  :-)
