A group of 24 Ptarmigans and friends joined the Eastern Pennsylvania Ski Council January 25 thru 28 for the Winter Carnival at Sunday River, Maine.  Mother Nature provided a high of 11 degrees F Friday with bright sunny skies and followed up with mid 20s and mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday.  The total Council group was about 265 people.

Conditions were excellent on the mountain.  If you skied the steeps, lift lines on White Cap and Oz peaks were very short even on Saturday and Sunday.  The absolute best run of the weekend (in this writer's opinion) was Lost Princess on Oz.  It opened for the first time Sunday and was covered with soft powder bumps and sparsely spaced trees to keep it interesting.  Thought I died & went to heaven!

A couple highlights of the trip were:
  • Brian Nuss's face-plant from hell on about his third run of the trip.   (Warp speed snow snakes do exist!  Right Brian?)
  • Ed Singer's knock-down, take-out tactic on the red (and blue) course.  (Edges? ...  We don't need no stinkin' edges!)
  • In Saturday's race, neither of the Ptarmigan teams came in last place despite the fierce competition.  ;-)~  Official race results for individuals can be seen at http://www.splitsecondrealtime.com/report.php?r=381&rp=43&page=1
  • All had a great time at the Hawaiian style luau banquet.  The band played some great tunes & got the place rockin'.
