Mount Orford, Quebec, Canada & Jay Peak, VermontJanuary 30 - February 2, 2003Twenty Ptarmigans and friends journeyed by bus with members of the North Penn Ski Club and Flying Dutchmen Ski Club to ski Mount Orford near Magog, Quebec and Jay Peak, Vermont. We enjoyed first class accomodations with buffet breakfasts and dinners each day at Hotel Cheribourg . Approximately 240 ski club members participated from various member ski clubs of the Eastern Pennsylvania Ski Council. The trip was organized and led by Dave Schoneker from the North Penn Ski Club on behalf of Eastern Pa Ski Council. Bob Campbell organized the Ptarmigan group. Friday January 31 we enjoyed warm sunshine and comfortable temperatures (about 25 F high temp) at Mount Orford with machine groomed packed powder on most trails. A few brave souls found bits & pieces of untracked powder in the trees along with bumps galore in the triple black diamond glades. Saturday the skies were cloudy with a threat of rain which, thankfully, never came during daylight. A race was run on one of the intermediate trails. Congratulations to the Flying Dutchmen team who took first place! On Sunday, the busses loaded during and after breakfast and departed about 8:15AM for Jay Peak, Vermont. It snowed most of the day providing a dusting of fresh powder on the slopes at Jay as well as on the roads en-route. The slopes at Jay were in excellent shape and provided the group with another great ski day. All had a great time on this trip which was an excellent value. Our thanks to Dave for running a fabulous trip! Happy Trails! Joel |
