Re-cap of Whistler Trip
Jan. 26 – Feb. 2, 2003
Ptarmigan member Mark Baechle recently led 32 skiers and snowboarders to
Whistler, British Columbia, for a week of skiing, snowboarding, partying,
snowmobiling, dogsledding, partying, shopping, hot tubing, dining, and partying.
Mark threw 3 parties for the group out there, including his 3rd annual Beach
Party (see photos), complete with grass skirts and tropical drinks. Everyone
got lei'd. The last 2 days at Whistler were fresh powder days, with people
skiing bowls, trees, colliers, and lots of untracked!
While there, five of them chartered a helicopter for a day of heli-skiing
and heli-boarding. After several hours of avalanche rescue training, the
helicopter transported Shawn Tamandl, Ray Cope, Mark Baechle, Steve Cook
and Stephen Cook, up to the top of a mountain, where the seven adventurers
would ski or snowboard down through trees and bowls with up to four feet
of untracked powder. They flew to the top of four mountains that day, each
time enjoying great snow and beautiful scenary on their descent to the helicoptor
that was waiting for them at the bottom. All five Pennsylvania explorers
agreed that it was an experience that they would never forget.
